About Me
The is the personal blog of Christian Plessl.
I’m a post-doctoral research associate at the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing at University of Paderborn, Germany.
My research is in the area of reconfigurable and custom computing, i.e., applying reconfigurable hardware devices to accelerate computational intensive applications. You find more details on my research activities on my research website.
While research in computer engineering seemingly bears many similarities with industrial software development, there are also important differences. In this blog I would like to share my experience from applying software engineering techniques in academic environment. I share the custom solutions and best practices that we have developed to improve our daily lives.
I’m an Apple Mac enthusiastic since I believe the Mac OS X provides an ideal operating system for researchers in computer science: it integrates the power of a Unix-based operating system with a superb graphical user interface. Hence I will discuss Mac-related topics in more detail, but many proposed solutions are applicable equally well to other flavors of Unix systems too.
